The Cask of Amontillado

Edgar Allen Poe's short story The Cask of Amontillado is told from the perspective of its revenge-minded main character, Montresor. He has been continually tormented by a man named Fortunato. One evening, during a carnival, Montresor sets into motion a plan of vengeance, as he invites his inebriated harasser into an isolated underground cemetery. Students can use this content pack to recreate its key scenes. Additional exercises could include identifying the internal and external conflicts, analyzing character traits, describing mood and tone, and defining key vocabulary.
